Chiropractic

Chiropractic is widely recognised as a safe, gentle and effective, drug-free primary health care discipline “that is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health” (World Health Organisation).

It is a modality focusing on the relationship between structure (spine), and function (as coordinated by the nervous system), aiming to restore and maintain health through the optimisation of this relationship. Spinal ‘adjustment’ is the core mechanism utilised by Chiropractors to influence this relationship.

Chiropractic is based on the premise that the body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism – whereby the necessary functions are coordinated by the intricate network of our nervous system – including the brain, spinal cord and nerve pathways to every cell within our body. Due to the anatomical relationship between the spine and nervous system, any dysfunction associated with the joints of the spine can lead to an impaired functioning of the nervous system, affecting our health. Spinal joint dysfunction may arise from physical, chemical and/or emotional stress.

Whilst people most often initially seek Chiropractic care for nerve, joint and muscle complaints such as back and neck pain, headaches, whiplash, sciatica, shoulder and arm pain, Chiropractic can offer so much more than pain relief and people are frequently astonished at the health benefits they experience from having their spine aligned.

How long you choose to benefit from Chiropractic care is always up to you though many people recognise and understand the value in choosing Chiropractic as part of their family’s ongoing health regime, electing to continue with maintenance care as a preventative measure, and an aim to function at their best.
